Hi Friends!

One of the changes I’m making in 2014 is incorporating yoga into my routine. {I have taken classes on and off for years but nothing consistent and nothing past the beginner level}

In 2013 I started doing pilates and spin for the first time, took bootcamp classes, body works classes and even a zumba class. I loved and hated stepping out of my comfort zone by trying new to me things.

Ultimately I have stuck with the spin and pilates and don’t have enough great things to say about both of them. I’m fairly certain that combined they helped me come close to a PR in the marathon this past fall even though I can assure you that I had one of the worst training cycles in terms of mileage and long runs that I’ve had since I first started running. Those classes made me STRONG in a different way than running ever has and that strength carried over into the last miles of the marathon when I should have fallen apart and didn’t.

I found Sima {RxDyoga} awhile back through her instagram profile. She was mentioned as one of the Washingtonian’s fitness accounts to follow so I did. I haven’t regretted that decision! She is fitter than fit – a runner, cross-fitter, and yogi – and a mom to top it all off.

In the upcoming months she is going to be featured on my blog in Yoga posts. I love the idea of becoming a yogi but I know NOTHING about yoga – so she will be your expert!

If you are new to yoga check out her video on the top 5 things she suggests you know before heading to your first class!

Random thought of the day: Small changes add up to big changes over time.

  1. I just started following her on Instagram and I’m amazed by her photos and videos! My goal is to to one yoga session a week this year because I realized that my previous injuries were probably preventable with better stretching. I’m hoping yoga can also bring back some of my upper body strength.

Thanks for doing this! I can’t wait to see more yoga posts.

  2. Thanks for this, Dorothy! I used to be a pretty regular yoga practicer but got out of the habit when we cut our gym membership last year. I need to get back to it. It does such amazing things for your body when you stick with it!

  3. Once a week is my goal too! =)

  4. I’m aiming for 10-15 min of yoga in my stretching routines post-run to help me loosen up and become more flexible. Somehow I find it easier than a dedicated day of longer practice.

  5. Thank you for this! I’ve started incorporating a few sculpt classes into my regular running/weight routine. I’ve also started doing a yoga youtube video a few days a week, but I think I’m ready to go to a class!

  6. I am also beginning to incorporate yoga into my training plans… I look forward to future yoga posts!

  7. I’ve also done yoga for years, but nothing consistent. One of my goals this year is too implement more cross-training into my routine to hopefully avoid injury. This will definitely come in handy!

Wow! I love it! I decided to start doing yoga this year…this is perfect!

  9. Yoga is a real pleasure for body and soul. But it requires dedication and huge physical capacities. To prepare your body for regular trainings and to improve your results the proper nutrition is vital. I am taking Military Grade Nutritionals. These dietary supplements were developed for soldiers, but they are good for everyone, who wants to keep fit. They provide sustainable results and help me improve my shape quickly.

  10. Thanks for this. As I am a new mom and was thinking to join yoga classes to reduce my post pregnancy weight, it was very helpful. Looking forward for more yoga posts.

  11. I’m very pleased to find this great site. I wanted to thank you for
ones time just for this fantastic read!! I definitely loved every part of it and I have you saved as a favorite
to look at new stuff in your site.

  12. It’s going to be finish of mine day, but before ending I am reading this enormous paragraph to increase
    my experience.
