I’ve been a little out of sorts lately. Okay a lot out of sorts. Stress + lack of running + post marathon blues = very unhappy Dorothy.

So when the opportunity arose to run YET another MARATHON how could I say no?!?!

I’ve never been to VEGAS and what better way to see a city or experience a new town than to run it. Yep. RUN IT.

Marathon #23 is 6 days away. I’m not prepared. I’m not in the shape I was in a month and a half ago. I may not break 4 hours. BUT I DON’T CARE. I’m about to do what I love and love what I do.

I LOVE 26.2 so much that I waited till 11.26.2012 to do this blog post – because yes I wanted a 26.2 in the date. Yes I am THAT much of a running geek.

On tap for this week is to get my mind straight so I can tackle 26.2 again and to make a feather head thing-a-ma-bob because I’d like to feel sort of vegasy [is that a word?] on my next 26.2.

I’ll do my usual little disclaimer. Probably not the smartest thing in the world to run another marathon, but I like them, and I want quantity and quality. When it comes to the marathon distance I have a real problem with this idea. On shorter races I’m all about quality – it’s why I don’t really want to run 13.1 while in Vegas – because I don’t think I can PR after travel and hanging out for 2+ days….but a marathon? Well I don’t mind if it’s just another number in my list of marathons because I really like quantity possibly more than I like quality when it comes to the 26.2 distance?

I come alive during the marathon. It’s hard, painful, glorious, tear inducing fun to me and I’m AS ready as ever to get back out there again and as cheesy as it sounds…..find my strong.

Will you be running the #stripatnight? The half or full?

If you come to the expo check out the Women’s Running Booth!! At some point during the weekend I’ll be there helping to promote the November/December issue – insert GIANT smile.

Mile Posts Blog is on:

  1. I’m running the full! It will be my first. I’m getting SO excited! Can’t believe it’s only 6 days away!!

  2. You’ll rock it! Vegas is super fun! Enjoy!

  3. I’m running it too! Love Vegas and love marathons :)

Good luck on your race. By the way, I listed your blog on my top ten.

  4. I’m not running Vegas but you will have a blast! Vegas is a lot of fun!! ENJOY! Oh and I love your costume idea

  5. Hi Dorothy! I love, love, love your blog! I “ran” across it last week right before I took on my first marathon in Philadelphia! I loved every single part of it…such a great day. I will be running the Vegas half too this weekend with my friends! Best of luck and maybe I will see you at the expo:)

  6. What a super cute picture of you! Best of luck to you in vegas! Can’t wait to see a pic of you in your feather thingy.

  7. Have fun in VEGAS!!!! Good luck too!

  8. Go for it! You will have a blast. You are going into it with a great attitude. Good luck, and have fun!

  9. I will be running the half! Ive normally volunteered while my husband ran but this year we are both running. Im scared. I am so looking forward to running the strip though! It will be such an experience! I would come and say hi to you….BUT this stupid social anxiety that I deal with wont let me. (Im trying to push myself out of my comfort zone when possible this year, so I really hope I can say hi! )

  10. I will be there running the half, good luck!

  11. I ran the half there last year and won’t be going back anytime soon. I got food poisoning on my way into town and then the race itself was just a mess. I hope things work out better this year, but I’ll wait for the reviews before I consider giving RnR Vegas another try.

I can’t imagine running in a sparkle skirt and skimpy top – it was freezing last year. I was layered up for the first 3 miles. But I am a So Cal girl so maybe 30 degrees isn’t so bad to others.

  12. How fun! You will be so close (Vegas is only a short flight) from me! Wish I was going to be there to run the strip with you. Adorable outfit you have selected! Have a blast!

  13. good luck in vegas! I LOVE your polka dot jacket in the picture. May I ask where you got it from?

    Thanks! :)

  14. I am running Vegas as well! I am doing the half because it lines up perfectly with my marathon training schedule…and hey, it is Vegas! Good luck! It sounds like it will be a great race!

  15. John is running I’m spectating

  16. I ran the half back in 2007 before it was a Rock n’ Roll event. At the time it was sponsored by Zappos. It was fun to stay in Vegas, my husband and I saw Le Cirque’s “O” the night before and had a nice dinner at the Bellagio. I definitely over did it the day before: we walked through every casino on the strip. So there was no PR for me. I think it is a good race to go into with the mentality that it’s just for fun. What was so funny is that as all the runners are preparing to run there are still people heading back to their hotel rooms having been out all night. Just as we were leaving the strip I saw one drunk guy squat down right on the side walk and do his business. Strange. But I guess anything can happen in Vegas right? Have fun!

  17. Ooh have FUN! And remember that what happens in Vegas…appears on everyone’s blog! Ha ha. Can’t wait to see pics.

  18. Yay!! Can’t wait for you to find your strong!

  19. Love the picture. You are incredible!! I got the shirt today by the way and posted a picture on my blog. Love it!!

  20. You’re outfit is too dang cute!! Can’t wait to see a recap on this one! I’d loveeeee to run Vegas -erhaps net year :) I plan to run the 13.1 RnR here in St. Petersburg in Feb. It’s my goal race to make a sub-2hr PR!

  21. You’re a running machine! This is fantastic and you are going to look so cute in the outfit :)

The strip at night is on my race-to-do (fantasy!) list. Hope you love every second of it 😀

  22. Good luck to you! :)
I’ve always admired and I admire people who are able to run marathon.
Although I do not run (flat feet :) ) I keep your fingers crossed for you!
BTW I see a great outfit and vulkan of energy in the picture :-)
