In a world that doesn’t often make sense I’d like the weather to – I know – I know – there are bigger issues.

It’s been REALLY nice all week and now we are supposed to see a 30 degree temperature drop in one day. I can’t handle this – please get it together mother nature – I want to be warm and happy. This feels like the longest winter ever.

 March 1

6 treadmill miles this morning while watching Intelligence — it’s not the greatest show – it’s not the worst – I really only enjoy watching it while on the treadmill. Anyone else have shows they like during running but would never want to sit down and spend an hour watching while not working out? Just me?

I’m a crushing hard on this song this week – thank goodness for youtube and the repeat button.


My kids know all the words to the songs on the Avicii CD. Yes, I said CD, bought the whole thing – love it and have been playing my favorites on repeat for weeks now. It’s perfect for warm, sunny days. Now if mother nature can just get this weather thing figured out. Hopefully by the first official day of spring – it will actually feel like spring. Yes, I’m complaining about the weather again – do it every winter – when I am old and grey I need to live somewhere warm during the winter. I.just.can.not.handle.the.cold.

Marine Corps Marathon lottery ends March 15. If you want to enter do it quick – you are running out of time! I’m a member of the Runner’s Club {5 or more Marine Corps Marathons} so I get to register at a different time with a guaranteed entry. Only issue is that I have heard that they are limiting the number of entries this way – it has become a first come first serve sign up – unlike other years where I could wait till August to decide if I wanted to run MCM. I’m wondering if I should throw my name in the lottery list in case I don’t get in through the Runner’s Club. This also makes me wonder if I am crazy – are all people in the Runner’s Club going to make a mad dash to sign up for MCM this year? It seems from a non scientific perspective that when you make a race a lottery race – all the sudden everyone wants to run it…..thoughts?

Back when I thought I was going to be able to train decently this spring I signed up for B & A Trail Marathon – another favorite. I can’t decide if I should drop down to the half – as a decent workout – do the full as a super long run for Boston – or just bag the whole thing together. 2014 is the year of it being okay doing these types of things. In 2015 if I sign up for a race I’m running it regardless. I know this isn’t wimping out – I’m going with the whole being gentle to myself thing right now – but it sure feels like wimping out sometimes. Onward and upward.

March 2

Sears and sent me a fitbit to track my activity. I’m VERY excited about this little gadget. I have a Jawbone UP and really like it but have been lazy about using it lately. This was just the kick in the pants I needed to remember that I need to be MORE active in every day life, not just when working out. Prior to becoming a mom I was SOOOOO lazy on long run days, I no longer have that luxury. It has helped me recover so much faster because I don’t run 20 miles – lay on the couch and stuff my face. I come home – shower – get moving – workout the kinks – try to stretch while playing with kids or getting stuff around the house finished. I don’t get stiff – I don’t even feel as tired as when I use to lay around. Any other running parents feel the same way?

March 4

Eric is out of town again. It’s exhausting, but I’ve been enjoying lots of “special” time with my littles. I swear to you since changing what I eat my mind is clearer than ever before. I get frustrated less and have been enjoying my kids even more. It’s CRAZY to me that food has such an effect on our bodies and minds.

    Since I’ve pretty much run on the treadmill the entire winter I’ve been watching – Shameless, Bates Motel, The Following, Intelligence, Grimm, Law & Order SVU, and more. I swear this is the most tv I’ve watched ever!!

  4. The only time I’ve been able to watch TV while on the treadmill was when the Olympics were on. I was NOT feeling a run and remembered that the Olympics were on so I got super pumped to get motivation from these awesome athletes. You know what ended up being on at that time? CURLING. ugh. So much for that theory… HA!

    I totally agree about not being lazy after a long run – as long as I keep moving and stretching I’m fine. But if I choose to nap all day…. it’s a wrap!

    I love going to the coffee shops around where we live (though mostly one in particular). I love taking my kids there for a bite and some coffee (for me). We’ll sit and read, write, draw while enjoying some quality time.

  7. I love my fitbit, too bad we couldn’t be fitbit friends. Its really fun. The weather in Cali has be so odd, we don’t get hard winters like you do but it’s hard to deal with really hot one day and the next day it’s cold. Everyone’s kids have been getting sick left and right.

    We are ready for spring here, we love planting new veggies and enjoying all the beautiful new flowers that bloom.

  12. One of the only things lately I’ve found that’s held me interest while on the treadmill is the Olympics. One big reason is that where I run inside, there’s no sound on the monitors and I can still watch the speed skating, bobsledding, downhill skiing, and the snowboarding and stay motivated. I’m sure the summer Olympics would be even better to watch but I normally don’t touch the treadmill when the weather becomes that nice.

  13. Nope, you’re not alone. When it’s cold outside and I need to do my outdoor exercises, and don’t want to miss any of my pet TV shows, I simply move some of the furniture blocks, make some room for myself and do my workouts in front of the screen. Works for me every time.

Haven’t really considered using a treadmill, since I enjoy watching mother nature so much when I run, and the weather is usually pretty good around here anyway, so no worries of being trapped inside for weeks on end. Hey umn, perhaps you could do a quick comparison review between Jawbone and Fitbit, I have been tossing up about which one is the way to go – it pro’ly doesn’t matter, but a comparison would be nice. Thanks!

  15. I totally hear you, I hate cold weather and long winters too. I really love running, but only in the outdoors – I can’t handle the treadmill, it’s way to dull for me.
    Please post about the fitbit flex when you try it out, it looks really cool and I might want to get one for myself if it works well.
