I was going to wish you a Happy Memorial Day but then I read this article – http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2015/05/22/im-a-veteran-and-i-hate-happy-memorial-day-heres-why/ – If you have a moment, read it. I paused today to think about the lives lost, lost life means something more to me now after the loss of my father-in-law. I understand the pain better. After my recent travel, I am even more proud to be an American. YES we have problems/issues/conflicts/etc. in this country, but I’d like to think that we are extra lucky to live here despite all that! So anyways, if you are veteran and you are reading this, thank you for what you have given to this country for all of us.

We headed to Cunningham Falls State Park in Maryland to celebrate our freedom, just the 5 of us. Typically we are at the Outer Banks this weekend, but because SOL’s they take in third grade we had to stick around and not pull our kids out. Some people think you should NEVER pull kids out, I don’t mind it when they are super little, so there’s that. I don’t know how I feel about the effectiveness of SOL’s but I get they must have some sort of measure to see if you are ready for the next grade level, so I won’t complain. I digress….we headed to Cunningham Falls because it has a little beach and I hoped that would bring a smile to Colton’s face since he literally asks me almost daily if we can move there. I tell him – I would love to move there but we have to convince daddy 😉

I can’t remember who told me about this little gem of a park, but I LOVE it. The park itself is actually not little at all – I’d love to come back one day and run the trails. If you live in this area, I highly recommend it. It was crazy busy today, but is less crowded on non-holidays.

After we hung out at the sand area by the lake we went on a short hike to see the waterfalls. About a quarter of the way through the hike, Colton complained and I ended up carrying him the whole way there {this happened the last time we came too}. The falls are completely worth the walk/hike.

I’m really looking forward to when the littles are just a little bit bigger and we can take them on real hikes. There are so many mountains, trails and parks to explore in Virginia.

We headed home after the park and went to the new Chipotle in Leesburg. We have tried to go there three times since it opened and each time the line was literally insane – that is saying a lot because the line is always long at Chipotle – this took long to a new level. Clearly everyone else was as excited about it opening as we were 😉

Oh and I ran yesterday for the first time since the Great Wall Marathon. I don’t like taking that many days off but I remind myself that I really want to be a runner for life, so recovery is just as important as running. My run was only 3 miles but it felt wonderful to be out there moving again. Didn’t have time for run today and it doesn’t bother me at all. I feel better now that my life is a bit more balanced. There will be many years that I will get to run as much as a want, these years aren’t it and I’m totally cool with that.
