I am not great about reading things a little bit at a scheduled time. I go through waves where I can read for hours to times that I can only read for 15 minutes with out falling asleep. I have been trying more and more to read the Bible a little bit each day – to find inspiration from the true source rather than self help books. I would be lying if I said that every day I find something that speaks to me in the Bible. Some days I search and they are just words and I put it down and find another book. On other days, when my heart is open, I have life altering moments when I reading The Word.

The abundant life Day Book is a cross of these two desires – to read scripture, but to also read things that make me reflect. It is a Day Book that is great for someone who is spiritual, who wants to become more spiritual or someone who knows nothing about God but is curious and would like to start by taking a small day by day journey.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read the title of this devotional was Ryan Hall’s about me on twitter. If he is not afraid to talk about what he believes in, neither am I.

Nancy Guthrie had me hooked from the moment I read the introduction.

Each day has a date on it, which works better for me than a Day 1, Day 2 deal like Beth Moore’s little day by day devotional book. I like seeing the date and associating the wisdom on that day to my life. If I miss a day and then go back I like to see if the wisdom can correlate to what happened on that day.

Nancy first lists a passage from the Bible then the next paragraph is her writing but speaking from the point of God to you. It is a very effective writing mechanism. The last paragraph is written as if you are saying it to yourself, again very effective.

October 16th (Columbus Marathon) was titled I Am Producing Fruit In Your Life. It spoke to me.

The Bible verse was: The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22 – 23.

Part of the 1st paragraph really touched a nerve with me after a mean spirited comment was left on my post about Columbus Marathon. A post where I laid out my heart, and put forth my excitement for the marathon. I only accomplish such things with the help of God.

I will bless you with love for the unlovable people in your world, joy in the midst of great sorrow, peace in the midst of chaotic circumstances, patience for frustrating situations, kind words in place of a cold shoulder. You will do good to those who have nothing to offer you, be faithful when you want to quit, be gentle when you are treated harshly…

October 18th
Today’s paragraph also spoke to me.

….I chose you to bear the fruit of genuine love for other people. The love you receive from Christ as you abide in him will flow through you and onto others for their benefit, so that they will turn to me and become my disciples.

LOVE. So happy I found this book.

Don't you just LOVE a good devotional book? I like to keep a small notebook with mine, and jot a few reflections down after reading. Keeps me and my faith in check, and it makes it easier to remember what I read, as the day goes by.

    Enjoy lady!!

    Beautiful post…I needed those quotes today (which is why I am grateful for reading this a day late). :}

  3. That looks like a very good book :) I went and saw what that person said and it was not out of love AT ALL!! I'm so sorry they spoke to you that way because it grieves my heart to see when people misuse scripture.
I'm a firm believer in "If you don't have anything nice to say, DON'T SAY IT!" and that is what God intends:
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:29-32

Thanks Kris – I find it VERY sad when people use the Bible for negativity. It doesn’t hurt me though like it used to – the Lord knows my heart :)

  5. She seemed confused by the concept of statistical
proof. The executive rehab program that Valiant Recovery offers contains
classes and alternatives that could allow you to deal with anxiety properly, and
help brief circuit any relapse triggers within the long term ahead
of you fall again into the outdated techniques. Aside from
doing the usual charity works, it provides assistance also to homeless persons who are suffering from drug addiction, people who are
unemployed or those who cannot afford a full rehab treatment.

I love a good comment!
