Wanted to share my recent blog post from the Saucony blog!! I’d also love to hear some of your tips for traveling and running!

Saucony Travel Tips

Saturday I ran 12 miles before the winter storm hit us on Sunday. I don’t know about you but I find winter to be the most challenging season to be a runner. The last two miles I wanted to be home and in a warm shower so I picked up the pace. My overall time for the run was 1:35:11. I randomly noticed post run that I started at 11:11 – love it when I see numbers like 11:11 that make me happy.

  • Mile 1: 8:23
  • Mile 2: 8:45
  • Mile 3: 8:52
  • Mile 4: 8:26
  • Mile 5: 7:52
  • Mile 6: 7:45
  • Mile 7: 8:16
  • Mile 8: 8:12
  • Mile 9: 8:08
  • Mile 10: 7:17
  • Mile 11: 6:43
  • Mile 12:  6:19

Sunday I ventured out in the snow thinking that it might be nice and peaceful out – the roads were VERY slippery and I found it hard to find my footing. I decided to call it a day after 2 miles and head back inside to spend the snow day with my family. I do love training but it’s always nice when you don’t feel like you HAVE to run or you are messing up your training.

  • Mile 1: 8:18
  • Mile 2: 9:01

I’ve been thinking about my New Years Goals – I prefer goals over resolutions – and one of those goals is to start fresh in 2014. I don’t want things both physical, like junk around my house, or mental, like an email inbox overflowing, cluttering my mind. Yesterday my husband and I spent hours going through the kitchen, closets and cabinets – throwing things out and finding things to donate. Today I have spent a good portion of the day working through the emails in my inbox one by one. It feels good and I almost feel lighter mentally in a way – if that makes any sense. My inbox is down to less than 40 emails and that fact in and of itself makes me want to jump up and down for joy!

What are some of the goals you have for 2014 that aren’t running related?

  1. great tips for running when you travel. sometimes i like to pick a landmark that i’d like to see and run to it early in the morning before crowds arrive.

  2. I usually use MapMyRun and find a course that sticks to 1 or 2 roads when traveling and I don’t know the area, that or I stick to the treadmill which usually isn’t very much fun. :)

  3. love this post. we live in the same area so i’m dealing with the same icy/snowy situation right now – sunday morning i was scheduled to run a 5k in reston and the snow started falling just as the gun went off. definitely an experience but glad i wasn’t scheduled to run more than 3 miles that day.

i so hear you on cleaning things out this time of year. i know the big thing is spring cleaning but i love ‘new year’s cleaning’ – i get all my files in ‘my documents’ organized and one of the best feelings is cleaning out all the stuff i have i don’t need or use anymore while a movie is playing and sorting it all into bags for goodwill.

i never really thought about the difference btwn ‘resolution’ vs ‘goals’, but now that you bring it up, i’m realizing what i thought were shaping up to be my resolutions are really my 2014 goals. great post!

  4. I’m with you on Goals over Resolutions. I have so many running related goals and am working on my list now. I’ll have a post up before the new year. But as far as non running goals I want to be more organized with my time. I have so much going on between my blog, keeping up with social media, work, kids, family that I really need a better method. I use to be so organized and I just don’t know what has happened in the past couple years.
I also want to spend more quality time with my kids. We do a lot together now but I know I can be better about putting down the phone or tablet and sort of teching-out to do more things with them.
