Panther Vision sent me one of their POWERCAPS lighted running hats to test out on my early morning runs!Powercap

I wasn’t aware that I was wearing a men’s hat {blame it on my large-for-a-girl head}. It’s adjustable in the back so it fit my head fine and was comfortable while running. The detailing on the hat is reflective as well as the back adjustable strap being reflective. I didn’t notice any extra weight from the lights in the front brim. At $29.99 this hat is worth what it costs. The only downside to it is that it’s a bit of a pain to wash, so I wore it multiple times {ewww} before washing.

Where I run now is fairly well lit so I don’t often wear a headlamp, but I do like the option of being able to wear light in a hat form rather than wear a bulky headlamp. I’m running Hood To Coast in a couple of weeks and though I don’t know if this would count for their required headlamp at night, it does seem like a good option for a relay.

Verdict: If you run at night or in the early morning this is a good purchase if you need a little extra light

Do you run in the early morning hours or late at night? Do you wear any form of light to light your way? Tried the Panther Vision POWERCAP? What did you think?

  1. I walk the Portland to Coast (the Hood to Coast’s walking relay, done at the same time on the same course) and we use lighted hats at night. They definitely count for your required gear. I’ve walked the PTC 10 years now, and I love it! Enjoy!

  2. I do run early in the morning but typically I stick to the treadmill because I am very skiddish about running in the dark by myself. Hopefully one day I’ll get over the fear but right now I stick to the treadmill!

  3. I normally just wear a headlamp. I like the Petzl Tikki, but this sounds like a really good idea.

  4. Could you elaborate on “kind of a pain to wash”?

  5. I wear a headlamp as well because I am a 4AM runner. But I am also in the northeast, meaning this sort of hat would be useful for about 2 months – one in the spring and one in the fall – between when it was too cold and when it was no longer needed :) But thanks for the review!

  6. If you want your skin to look beautiful, you shouldn’t fork out for rip off cosmetics, just create them at home yourself. It’s simple and low cost. – Anna

  7. When I run in the early morning I wear a black diamond head lamp. It can slide around a bit sometimes so I like the idea of a hat!

  8. This might be really good for Ragnar Relay!
