I’m back home after what feels like a whirlwind weekend at Rock N Roll Las Vegas. It’s hard to believe this was my 5th year heading to Vegas for what has become one of my favorite race weekends all year!

I headed to Vegas solo on Friday and arrived mid-morning. I enjoyed getting to Vegas earlier than in years past! Gave me time to eat a relaxing lunch and then head to the expo.

mmmm….sushi. It doesn’t actually look that good but it DID taste good.

This race is HUGE {I believe there were over 40K runners in the 4 races combined} so I knew I wanted to get to the expo Friday versus waiting till it was busier on Saturday.

Meb had just finished up one of his facebook live chats when I got there! If you haven’t visited the Rock N Roll marathon facebook page lately check it out – the addition of facebook live has really made it so that you feel like you are part of the action even if you aren’t at a race.

While at the expo I finally got to meet Alex, the man who started the @instarunners instagram account. It’s was fun chatting with him and his wife. I hope one day that @IHaveARunnersBody becomes an account similar to @instarunners!

After chatting at the expo for what felt like a bazillion years with my girl Sarah, I headed back to the hotel.

Exhaustion got the better of me and I passed out and woke up with 30 minutes to go before the VIP party.

Thankfully throwing your hair in to a top knot looks cute with zero effort because I was rushing around like crazy to make it there.

After a weird cab right – no thank you I do not want to talk politics with you – I decided that I should walk as much as possible for the rest of the weekend. Thankfully that saves money which makes it easier to want to walk everywhere bahaha!

I stayed at the Wynn, one of my all time favorite hotels. Flowers and butterflies and the most comfortable hotel beds ever make it the only place I want to stay in Vegas.

The VIP party was a blast as usual. I love seeing friends that I only see once or twice a year. Vegas is a great race in my opinion but the entire race weekend is what makes me want to keep coming back for more. I love being surrounded by so many like-minded people. I’m not sure I’d love Vegas at any other time of the year though. Partying with runners is my cup of tea, so I think it will be something that I save for my yearly RNR trip.

I loved loved loved my dress. I’m always cold at stuff like this so I was excited I found something party appropriate with sleeves. Rock N Roll Las Vegas VIP Party & 5K Recap @mileposts

Wore my favorite black heels that have NEVER given me blisters. Seriously, these are miracle heels :) you can dance the night away with out an ounce of regret.

A small part of me this weekend wished I was in shape to run the marathon again, but then the part of me that wanted wine was glad I was sticking to the 5K and half marathon.

Saturday I relaxed and ate lunch solo again. There were so many people to meet up with, which was awesome. But I also really enjoy alone time, so grabbing tacos solo it was.

The tacos did not disappoint. I basically could eat tacos or sushi for every meal for the rest of my life.

The weather was amazing this year – a welcome change from the chilly and windy conditions last year.

We Run Social hosted a meetup before the 5K. If you are ever running a race where there is one of these meetups beforehand I can’t recommend them enough. 15 years ago if you went to a race alone in another city you might not have known anyone. Now with social media it feels like you are never alone. Meet ups are a fun way to make new friends and see old ones!

Bumped in to @pavementrunner at the meet up and it was lovely as always :)

Ran the first mile of the 5K conservatively – after my heart stuff at Marine Corps there was no way I was going to push it. The second mile I ran in to Carlee and Brian, so I ran with them before Brian told me to go on ahead {Carlee was running with a rather large costume so they were slowing down while I was starting to push the pace too much}! Pushed it in for the last mile + .1 and was happy to finish feeling strong.

Rock N Roll Las Vegas is a great race to not take your racing too seriously. While I have raced before and had fun doing it, I also really enjoy just running and not stressing about what my time is. The reality is that no one cares about your time but you, so whatever you run as long as you have fun, then you win. Winning isn’t always about being first or having a personal record as it relates to time. When someone asked me after the half marathon how I did, I said I had a personal best in fun and that’s the truth for the whole weekend. Fun is the name of the game in Vegas. Running + fun = #winning

And that’s that. Then it was time to rest up for the half marathon on Sunday.

  1. It looks like you had such a great time and that dress looks gorgeous on you. I always struggle to find a dress that has sleeves but not bulky sleeves if that even makes sense. The Vegas races always look like so much fun. I’m not sure how I would do racing that late but it would be so much fun to go out there.
