Yesterday’s run was 65 minutes. I ended up going a bit over with 1:06:45 – miles were 8:47, 8:45, 9:05, 8:42, 8:11, 7:59, 7:31, 7:37 – I felt one with nature in my Newline Imotion Printed Jacket 😉 Jokes aside, I really love Newline gear, it’s very different from everything else I have –  The reflective on this jacket is a copper color, instead of your typical silver!


I’m still working on figuring out the sweet spot – where my easy runs are slow enough but also not too slow. I’m going to switch and start wearing my Forerunner 225 for the majority of my runs to see what my heart rate is on these runs.

When I come up with training plans for myself or take a pre-made training plan and tailor it for my running I usually go by mileage per day and not time.

This go-round I’m experimenting with running some of my weekly runs by time and not worrying about the mileage. This will likely lower the mileage on some easy days and up the mileage on others. The past three months my recovery runs were 3 – 4 miles.

3 miles is not enough time for my body to warm up and loosen up, yet when I felt sore I would cut it short and end at 3 miles vs 4. 3 miles, even on recovery pace days is less than 30 minutes. I’m not sure I see the benefit of running for less than 30 minutes when I am trying to get the blood flowing and speed up recovery.

This past Saturday I had planned to take a rest day but my legs were sore from the long run the day before, so I headed out for a slow run, by the end of the run I was feeling better and no longer was worried about the mileage I had planned for Sunday.

I started this cycle at 51 miles. I am trying to figure out what I want to have as my peak mileage this cycle. I want to push it a little more than I have in the past year but I also don’t want to feel like I’m always running. I’m enjoying a more balanced life and I don’t want to give that up. I want to be able to grab a glass of wine with a friend and not always say oh I’m sorry, no I can’t go here, or thanks for the invite but I have to run tomorrow. I also don’t want to be tired as heck all the time and not do things with my kids because I’m cranky or because mommy’s legs hurt. I’m all for sacrifices but I’m also not an elite, running doesn’t need to be my life. It can be fulfilling without becoming an obsession for me.
