One of the misconceptions I had when I started working in the running industry was that if you worked for a company that had something to do with running you would literally be a super fit human because you would have all the time in the world to run. As it turned out fitting in running as a Brooks tech rep wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.

Things got easier when my friend suggested I keep a bucket in my car at all times filled with running stuff. Hello genius – why didn’t I think of that?! That way I could run whenever, where ever, and never have an excuse because I didn’t have the gear. It also meant I didn’t have to plan ahead and try to figure out how I was going to fit in a run or what my weekly mileage was going to look like. I knew that no matter what, I had everything there waiting for me, a run was going to happen.

It’s a habit that stuck with me. A habit that has come in handy as a mom who sometimes feels like all she does is taxi little people from one place to the next.

What to pack in your car just in case you want to go for a run.... @mileposts

I decided to expand on that article and make my first YouTube video – GULP

I used my phone and propped it up on my rumble roller with a yoga block on top, which keeps making me laugh every time I think about it.

Here is the link to the video on my YouTube page, which you could subscribe to just in case I ever get ants in my pants and decide to make a video again.

My grandma likes the video AND I’m fairly certain she is the only one watching it BUT you know what……it’s cool my grandma pays attention to what I do. One day I’m going to be a grandma and I hope I’m half as cool as my Nini is. I went to see her on Sunday for Mother’s Day and she was telling me all about her yoga class and what she can do now that she never could. She is in her 80s and goes to yoga – GAH – I just love her so much.

Packing everything up made me realize how excited I am for some of my upcoming races. They are far off but signing up and looking forward to them always keeps me motivated on days I don’t feel like running.

Here’s what’s on my running calendar so far:

Road Runner Sports Craft Classic Half Marathon San Diego – Coupon code IRUNTHISBODY gets you a discount off of all of their races

Leesburg 20K or 5K – This literally runs by my house and I was mad at myself last year for not running it. I haven’t signed up yet but am going to once I decide what distance!

RNR VA Beach – Signed up for this and am going to try to make it work – I’ve wanted to run this race for years and I can never make it happen.

Coupon code IRUNTHISBODY16 gets you a discount off most Rock R Roll Races

RNR Brooklyn – This is another play it by ear race.  I signed up for just in case and REALLY want to make it happen so I can see some of my NJ/NY friends!

Marine Corps Marathon – I love this race. I’m running again with Team Beef. I’ll be speaking and helping out with the kids race. I’m legit already excited about it and it’s forever and a day away.

Races make me happy. Clearly.

Leesburg Race

Speaking of which, I ran a race this weekend! I didn’t get dizzy either. I wanted to sit down and kiss the ground after because I was so freaking thankful. It’s funny how having something taken away from you for a bit really makes you appreciate it. My coach said to run it as a fun effort and that’s exactly what I did!

I feel like I have so much to say today but mom duties are calling. I’ll be back tomorrow! xo

YES you should DEFINITELY do Brooklyn! I loved it and it would be a great opportunity to hang!

  2. What a fabulous idea!! My whole family has literally just decided that we like running. As a mom of four time is short so I love the idea of always being ready. Thanks for the tip!

  3. what an amazing idea! I will surely adopt this habit as soon as possible. Keeping stuffs listed by you in the car can prove to be the best idea in case of need. No one knows what kind of need can come at any moment. Better be prepared for everything while you are on the run in your car. Simply just collect all necessary items and put it in a basket or something like that in your car.

I love a good comment!
