Last winter I convinced two friends {one who I would later learn couldn’t really swim – ooops – not to worry though there were divers so she was totally safe – that and she had her homemade noodle 😉} and my sister to join me one bright sunny day at Lake Anne to jump in to freezing {it was literally FREEEEEEZING} cold water at the Freezin’ For A Reason Polar Plunge, in an effort to raise money for Camp Sunshine.

You can tell from the pictures how happy my friend Shannon was to be doing this with me. That’s a good friend right there!! {hiiii Shannon!}

I chose this event because I’ve wanted to raise money to help others BUT a marathon or anything running related for that matter – just wasn’t the right thing for me because….

a. half of my friends are runners so I would feel bad asking them for money for me to run a race

b. if I was asking my friends for money for a race such as Boston it would likely be more about me wanting to run the race than me raising funds and that defeats the entire purpose of me wanting to help others – it needed to not be something that I was going to have fun doing. {though as it turns out – this was a very fun day}

c. I run races frequently…..so it’s not exactly stepping out of my comfort zone for something bigger than me

Jumping in to cold water is literally the last thing I would ever want to do – I don’t even like getting in pools when they are cold – making this the perfect event for me to participate in. Not something I would want to do – check. Not something I’m doing for myself – check. Not something that I do on a normal basis – check.

The moment I got out of the water last year….I pretty much said NEVER again yet here I am again.

If you are local and would like to join my team, help fund raise and jump in the polar plunge in February – email me at irunthisbody@gmail.com – I promise you it’s MORE fun than it sounds and it’s for a REALLY great cause so it’s a win-win!!

If you aren’t local and are looking for a good cause to donate to this holiday season I’d love it if you considered donating to my team. You can learn more about Camp Sunshine HERE and you can reach my fundraising page HERE

Thank you for considering!!

xoxo
