I can’t believe it’s May 27th – this year is going faster than any year of my life. Colton’s last week of pre-school is next week. He still has one more year before he enters kindergarten and this momma is holding out hope that by the time he goes they will switch it from half day to full day. #wishfulthinking

Yesterdays run was a craptastic 5 miles. I felt dizzy and nauseous and so I called it a day at 5 miles and walked back a mile to my car. I’d say there are things I push through and things I don’t push through, but really there is no decision when I feel like this. I literally can’t push through. Fun times. Pace slowed for obvious reasons – didn’t feel sick till the 3 mile turn around and then it was all downhill from there. I am wondering as crazy-pants as this sounds if it is caffeine that is irritating my stomach and then combine that with the heat and humidity + sweating like a mad person, makes me feel sick to my stomach which then leads to the dizziness? I’ve googled the heck out of it and I’m at such a loss – it’s very frustrating when this happens. On the bright side, I didn’t have any sort of caffeine before the Great Wall Marathon and didn’t feel sick or dizzy at all even though the temperature was over 80 degrees that day.

Ran in the Saucony Zealot for the first time. I decided I needed a little more arch support so I put my inserts from Road Runner Sports in them. Saucony gave us all this shoe when we were in Hawaii for the marathon, but I hadn’t really worn it since. Packed it for China and walked around in them all week and they felt amazing. We walked a ton and my feet never hurt.  Running in them felt different from other Saucony shoes I’m used to….verdict is still out on whether I love them or I’m sticking with my Kinvara’s.

This morning I felt fine, ran 5 miles and walked 1 more on purpose to cool down. I don’t ever cool down. I run and then it’s straight to doing other things. I have been attempting however for the past couple of months to walk a little after the run and give my body a chance to cool down and gather itself before going on with my day. This morning I ran in a pair of Altra’s my mom gave me. I’ve never run in this brand before but have been curious since Katie switched over to them. They felt different shall I say. I’m pretty sure I need a larger size because my right foot {my larger foot} in the 8.5 is right at the edge. In fairness to the Zealot and these guys I don’t typically like a new shoe the first time I run in it, they feel different and different takes some getting used to even if different is good or better than what you are doing. If you don’t try new things, you don’t know if you like new things. This is my motto for this week.

I am constantly debating in my head whether I want to get a coach and attempt to get back down close to my marathon PR or keep training for marathons but only do them for fun. Fun involves means zero pressure. A coach and attempting to get some speed back involves pressure. At times I like pressure, at times I hate pressure. Another thing I’m debating after Great Wall Marathon is that maybe I would enjoy training for a trail marathon over attempting to run a fast-for-me road marathon. A good portion of the race was on dirt and rocks – while it was nothing like a trail, trail – it was fun going all over the place. I enjoyed that some miles were crazy hard and my pace was in the 11’s and other miles were fun and fast and I flew down hills passing chickens and ended up with miles in the 7’s. I felt really strong during the race and really gave it my all {I also was crazy happy despite the immense pain}, which then takes me back to thinking maybe I want to work on speed. HMMM…..

That all being said I’m going to have to figure out how I’m going to train this summer. School ends for Chloe and Miles in just a couple of weeks and they are all too large for the triple {gave that up about a year ago} and I recently sold my double {gave that up awhile ago too} so really I can only push Colton and even he is really past the point where I want to push him or am capable of pushing him for more than 3 or so miles. I’m either going to have to start getting up at 4:10 am to run before my husband leaves for work, or I see a lot of treadmill running in my future. Anyways those are the running ramblings that are going on in my head now.

Without Walls featured my marathon picture on their instagram today! Every time I think of this race or see a picture I can’t stop smiling. I haven’t felt that way about a race in a while – it feels good.
