The Reston Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on March 24th, 2013.

Race Information:

Start: South Lakes High School, Reston VA

Marathon Start Time: 7:30 am

Half Marathon Start Time: 8:00 am

Race website: http://www.runnersmarathon.com/

Registration opened this past Sunday and will remain open till the field is closed. There is no race day registration. If you register before 12/2/12 it’s $85 after that the price goes up to $95.

The split start time is FANTASTIC in my opinion. My only major complaint about small town marathons that offer both the half and the full option is that they typically start those races together. When you are pacing for a marathon it’s very hard to start out with half marathoners and can really mess with your pacing strategy no matter how good you are at it. It’s also hard mentally not knowing who your competition is in the full vs. those that are running the half and vice versa.

If you are looking for a flat race this is NOT it. Reston is filled with hills. While you may gain some time on the downhills you will loose more on the ups than you typically gain. Plan on running this race for an enjoyable experience and not for your personal best time. Reston, hills and all, happens to be one of my favorite places to run!

I ran The Perfect 10 miler in Sept. 2011 and enjoyed it (less the massive hill towards the end!). I thought it was a great race and registered for the half marathon! Happy Running!

  2. That’s exciting- sounds like such a beautiful area. I saw this on Jess’s blog too… if we were still on the east coast, I’d love to check it out but it’s a bit far from Texas. :(

  3. I’m excited there is another half/full marathon so close by. I love Reston, very pretty and great for running!

  4. That marathon sounds fantastic!!! You go girl!

  5. I used to live in Bethesda and run there, but I had friends from Reston and loved it! I wish I had the means to come over and participate!

  6. This post is tugging at my heartstrings! We just moved from Reston to Sterling this summer and I miss running in Reston! We’re still very close to the W&OD (thank goodness), but running around town is not nearly as scenic. Thanks for sharing the race info!

  7. Woah! Does this mean you won’t be returning to win the B&A again next year? I figure since I do all of my long runs on the B&A trail I should probably just run the race already.

  8. :) I may just run the Reston 1/2 :) You know I love B & A Marathon!

  9. Sounds fun! We are moving next month and will be looking for local races (not the full for me, though – just the half!). Please keep highlighting the interesting ones.
