I love your comments, tweets and facebook messages. They lift me up and help me DREAM BIGGER in running and life. They make me want more – to live a life I can’t even imagine. I feel blessed to have YOU supporting me.

When I feel doubt in my mind I often draw from a well of positive comments from YOU all. I tell myself if people that don’t even really know me believe in me then why don’t I BELIEVE in myself. It helps. It snaps me out of the negative and pushes me to the positive.

I know I have become a happier, stronger runner because of this blog. It has kept me accountable and has been an outlet to help me deal with the pressures of motherhood and life in general. I’ve grown over the years and I know that is in part to being able to go back and read what I was feeling and thinking. Some posts I am proud of – others I cringe at and try to ignore the urge to delete them years later. It’s good to be reminded where you were – it helps you get to where you want to be.

One tweet that REALLY stuck with me this week was from the awesome ladies at BELIEVE I AM:

There are so many weeds in our lives. Weeds can be such things as negative self defeating thoughts, friends who aren’t really friends, a negative co-worker that brings your mood down, family members that put down your running or weight loss goals, people who don’t know you who choose to try to shove you down rather than lift you up. The list goes on and on. I personally think out of all of the the WEEDS some of the worst are the ones that develop in our own minds and flourish.

The WEEDS during my 10 mile race about my weight – almost brought me down. It’s only when we take charge of our minds that we can truly shine.


If you think you can’t do something – you WON’T.

If you think you can do something – you MIGHT.

If you KNOW you can do something – you WILL.


I will be repeating this over and over to myself for the month of October. It’s time to get my game face on. There is NO room for weeds this month – marathon go time is almost here.

  1. Dorothy this is something that I have had to work hard at, because in our society the politically correct mantra is can, try and might, instead of I can or will. I found that using the wishy-washy language give me and others an out – “Oh I tried, but didn’t/couldn’t do it”. I have found that using I will is much more powerful. I like the way you use the imagery of pulling weeds to get rid of that language.

  6. I truly love this post, it’s so true, I actually was pulling my weeds weeks ago. I want to be positive and it’s hard to surround yourself with the negative. I feel you girl!!!

    You are right, we can be our own worse enemy. We must believe in ourselves for a more positive path.
