As you may or may not already know Google is getting rid of Google Friend Connect.

What is Google Friend Connect? It’s this handy little box on the side of blogs that makes it easy for people to sign up to follow a blog. It gives you updates from each blog you follow in your Google Reader.

It is my understanding that blogs that are Blogger blogs [google] will still get to keep this handy little subscription gadget but for the rest of us that use other sites such as WordPress.org, are out of luck.

On March 1, 2012 you will no longer get updates from my blog if this is how you happen to *follow me* – I’m being proactive and removing the plugin from my site early.

This is a friendly reminder that if you like reading my blog you can follow Mile Posts two other ways.

Via my RSS feed — http://www.mile-posts.com/feed/rss/ and http://feeds.feedburner.com/mile-posts/QdjW

Or you can sign up to get my posts emailed to you —

Do you use Google Friend Connect? Are you sad Google is getting rid of it and pushing us to use Google +?

  1. I hate that they’re getting rid of it. It made everything so EASY!

And it was my understanding that even blogger users will lose it eventually, it will just take a little longer than non-blogger users.

  2. Boo… I’m just hoping that all the blogs will still appear on my Blogger dashboard reading list. I guess I should post about this too to keep the few readers I do have.

On another note, Colin found Amp Pro2 arm warmers for $10 at a local running store. I made him go back and buy me a pair too (really? He didn’t think I’d want some?) and I love them.

  3. I’m super sad. It’s such an easy way to follow blogs.

  4. I’ve got you in my sidebar so I always can find you super easy :)

  5. Mine hasn’t been working anyway.. ? Great reminder to be proactive and go ahead and get rid of it! Thanks!

  6. That’s weird that they’re doing that… Good thing I have you in my Reader!

  7. I am super sad too as my blogger reader is so convenient. I have some blogs emailed but it isn’t as easy to scroll through. I really need to find a solution for reading the blogs I follow better.

  8. Mile Posts By Dorothy Beal says:

I get yours emailed to me every day Nat :)

  9. Thanks for the info! I appreciate it, and made sure I was following you via RSS after you switched to WP.

I don’t really know how I feel about GFC and Google +. I do not, so far, understand what Google + is supposed to do. If I switch to WP though (which I have been considering), I don’t know what I would do. I have WAY Less GFC followers than you, though, so maybe I shouldn’t be worried about that.

I hope your GFC followers stay on board – most definitely love your blog!!

  10. I never used it – to me, using Google Reader has been the best way to keep track of the blogs I read. I actually like the effort that Google is doing to try and streamline things, although they need to do something to make Google+ more innovative.

  11. You’re on my sidebar!

I love a good comment!
