Name: Jesse Williams

Age: 31

Location: Seattle, WA

Years Running: 15ish

Favorite Race Distance: Marathon

Marathon PR: 2:23:19

Have you ever won a marathon: yes, my very first marathon. The Oklahoma City Marathon, 2002 I think.

Other PRs: 14:39-5k, 24:49 8k, 30:17- 10k, 1:08:58 Half

Do you cross train or lift weights: not really, just some core work. Only sometimes though

Running Accomplishment you are most proud of: finishing my first marathon. No idea how I made it to the line! I was so dumb that race and went out too hard in hot conditions. I bonked around 21 or 22 and just wanted to quit or walk. I didn’t run fast but I didn’t stop or walk either!!

Favorite Running Shoe: currently the Brooks Launch

Favorite Quote:
“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.”
Jack London

How do you find/make time to train: Luckily I can run at work!! Traveling is probably the toughest time to fit in my runs. If you want to get your run in on the road you have to get up early and just get it in! Chances are that something will come up so it’s safe that way.

Best running advice you ever received: There are no shortcuts to success in running. It’s pretty simple that to achieve success you have to work hard! No matter what your level! My high school coach told us that pretty much once a week

Any marathon advice you’d like to give: Be patient!!
