AM Workout:

  • 3 treadmill miles
  • 55 minutes of spin class
  • strength

Day 3 Food:

  • Basmati Brown Rice
  • Peach Jelly {organic with no fake sugars}
  • Chicken
  • Carrots
  • Kale
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Salad with chicken {middle of the night – I was out – better than the mozzarella sticks I would have been eating in my college days}
  • Wine

I probably shouldn’t have had wine while trying to figure out food issues BUT it was my running friends 35th birthday and I had never been out drinking with her before SO I decided having fun was more important to me. It wasn’t specifically listed on my allergy sheet as something I couldn’t have this week so I don’t feel bad about it.

Meghan Birthday 2
I don’t feel awesome today because of the drinking, but I can tell you that I feel AWESOME compared to what I normally feel like after a night of drinking. The next day hangover for me is beyond terrible. Not only do a feel awful physically but it’s usually a very low day for me. I am not happy. I berate myself inside as to why I chose to drink and why I made the food choices I did. It then is usually followed by some lame conversation with myself about how ugly and fat I am and how I’m really not good at anything and what am I doing with my life, and on and on. It’s ridiculous to even write out – it feels extra low and irrational – but when I am feeling it – I really feel that way. The week following a night out is usually pretty bad too – I tell myself all the hard work that I have put in for years is going down the drain. Down the drain because of one night? It’s so absurd. When I would go out before I would mostly drink beer – now that I know I have a wheat allergy I’m pretty sure my body/mind was in bad shape because I was literally drowning it with what my body considers toxins.

Meghan Birthday

I do not feel low today. I feel like I would imagine anyone would feel the next day after a night of drinking. I feel a tad hungover, want to lay around, take naps, and watch tv. No berating myself over bad choices. When I am finished writing this I plan on eating lunch and then working on some training plans while being lazy with my kids. I’m totally a ok with myself and this feels different {and good}.

I didn’t mention in my previous two posts on this diet that my allergist told me to stop taking all vitamins. I waver back and forth on the vitamin topic – sometimes I feel like they are a waste of money and other times I feel like they help me. Either way many of them have extra things mixed in with them so I plan on bringing the ones I would like to keep taking, to the allergist with me this week to see what she thinks. Another part of me says – why risk it? Why take something I think is helping me feel better when it could be making things worse? If I did stop completely it would save me some money!

I was asked if I saw a naturopath for the allergy testing or if I went to an allergist. I went to a regular allergist that my friend recommended. I currently go to an ENT {Ear Nose Throat} doctor to get my allergy shots. I could do my shots at this new allergist, but it’s an hour drive, so for now I’m sticking with two doctors.

Many of you have left comments on my previous two posts mentioning an intolerances. I am not allergic to milk but I am lactose intolerant. I stopped drinking milk shortly after college in 2004 and haven’t had a glass of milk since. If you suspect you have an intolerance the easiest way to figure this out is to eliminate the suspect food from your diet and record the results. If you feel better than you most likely have an issue with that specific food. My husbands insurance covered allergy testing which is why I chose to get concrete results and not just rely on my suspicions that certain foods were giving me issues.

Overall thoughts for the day: I feel better :)

  1. I’m so glad your allergy control is helping with those feelings after drinking! It must be horrible to feel that way even though you rationally know that none of is true. It’s kind of crazy what allergies can do to your body!

  3. I did some checking into FODMAP after you mentioned it a few posts ago and it is certainly something I am going to be pursuing. I have been treated for so many things in the past 2 years with nothing completely helping the bloating, fluid retention just feeling unwell part. It seems to come and go. My reading seem to show that food that is improperly digested can then cause the bacteria overgrowth, constipation, fatigue etc. There has been no time when it has been suggested I have IBS and to be honest I thought it was a condition of exclusion but I get that for some reason some people have trouble digesting certain foods and too much of them atone time flares everything up. Now what to do? How do you handle switching things in your diet while still logging in hard workouts? I’m not eating a lot of carbs but to eliminate so many veggies, fruit and dairy is going to be a challenge. How do you do this? Suggestions?

  4. Hello there!

I hope that you’ll continue feeling better. Anyway, I just love your AM workout of 3 treadmill miles, 55 minutes of spin class and strength. I think I will also try this.

  5. Hey Dorothy!
    I have to share this.
I find it interesting that you are talking about how you feel better….mostly with your mental state and self talk.
before I went off wheat and sugar and everything else I would have these totally irrational thoughts too….super depressed, no one likes me,i’m a loser etc. I know it sounds so dumb, but i can relate to what you’re saying about it seems real and you really feel that way at the time.
as soon as I started eliminating things from my diet, the first thing i noticed was my brain change. WAY more clear thinking, irrational and not crazy emotional. I was SHOCKED that FOOD was doing this to my brain.
    so crazy.
    anyway, hang in there! xxx

  6. I don’t know what I would do if my doctor told me to give up vitamins! I feel like they really help me to stay healthy and feel better!

  7. Yeah for feeling better! So fun to see Meghan on here! :) (We graduated HS together!)

  8. It seems like you are giving your elimination diet a great shot. I think that is sound advice for your doctor to tell you to stop taking vitamins while on the elimination diet. It is a good rule of thumb to eat as clean as you can during this time, meaning minimally processed foods/products. However, I usually recommend that most elimination diets my patients go on be for at least a few weeks. A lot of the time your body is still inflamed due to eating/ingesting the wrong foods for your body, and you want to give it at least 14 days. Might I also recommend receiving chiropractic adjustments during your elimination diet to enhance the health benefits of eating clean. http://globalchiropracticaz.com

  9. Laser liposuction uses laser technique to remove and breakup extra fat, by using two different methods i.e internal laser liposuction and external laser liposuction,

  10. I have Joomla and a Joomla template(rt_refraction_j15) installed on my website. But i want the same template and css styling, as a basic HTML template, so i don’t have to use Joomla for editing. Is there an easy way to convert the template to basic HTML/CSS template? .

  11. Hey! I know this is kinda off topic nevertheless I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog article or vice-versa?
My website addresses a lot of the same topics as yours and I feel we could
