It’s no secret I’m a fan of the McMillan Running Calculator. I’ve been using it since I was a 3:59 marathoner and it hasn’t let me down. The training paces have changed a little over the years but still have continued to help me see results.
When I got an email saying that Greg McMillan was coming out with a book I jumped up and down. Not kidding on this. I jumped.
I have 323049823094823 different running books. Some have information I agree with, some don’t. The books are sort of like some of the coaching classes I’ve taken, I agree with some of the philosophies and others I roll my eyes at.
I do however have this inkling that I’m going to love this book, so I thought I would make sure it was on your radar too. No this is not a sponsored post. No I do not know Greg McMillan……I’m just a runner dreaming of a sub 3:10 who thinks that maybe this book will help get me there.
Right now you can pre-order it – arriving in early May.
Other books I’m currently enjoying…..
Thrive – Katie suggested I get this book and I’m in love {yes love}. My mom asked if she could borrow it once I was finished and I flat out said no, that she needed her own copy. I refer back to this book daily for nutrition advice.
Made To Crave – It’s no secret that I have issues with over eating. What runner doesn’t at times? My appetite always seems to be out of control, though with some of the changes I’ve made by reading Thrive, I am getting it somewhat under control. Made To Crave explores why we have cravings and aims to help control them by realizing often times it’s not food we are craving. This book is a faith based book, so if you aren’t a Christian, you probably won’t like it.

I’ve got to say I’ve struggled with over-eating since starting to run (well, maybe I just didn’t notice it as much before), but recently I read “Savor: Mindful Eating, Mindful Life” and found it to be quite helpful in many aspects, more of a Buddhist approach to the subject, light on the Buddhism though. http://www.amazon.com/Savor-Mindful-Eating-Life/dp/0061697702
I’m going to check out that Thrive book from my library and give that a go, looking forward to the McMillan book as well.
Just ordered my copy – can’t wait!!
I think once I survive my first half, I’m thinking I’m going to begin focusing on my speed. I just have to survive first!

Thanks for letting us know about the book! I am definitely interesting in reading it!! I also use the McMillan calculator. I’m not very fast (half PR 2:01:00), but I aspire to get faster!

Thank you for the book tips! I overeat and every time I do it I am so frustrated. I work so hard at my running and cross training and I completely toss it out the window with a binge, ugh. Thank you for the book suggestions because I’ll be getting them on my Kindle pronto. I am not worried about losing a bunch of weight but I want to improve as a runner SO BAD and I know nutrition is going to help me get there. Hope you are feeling better about the rude comments lately, don’t know why people feel the need to attack behind the computer.

I love the McMillan Race Calculator! I swear by it! I look forward to reading the new book, too!
Have you read Women, Food & God by Geneen Roth? You may like it. She talks a lot about why we eat the way we do – over and under eating – body image – etc.

The McMillian Race calculator is great! I used it to help my boy train for his first half and full. I even used it in college to do my first Boston marathon. Sometimes, like now, I get the feeling the calculator gives me too much credit for speed on short distances. I put in my last race result, and it says I should be able to run a marathon at faster than my goal pace. I chuckled a little then thought, “Maybe it is right!” I’ll check into those other book recommendations.
I love the McMillan running calculator too, I would be lost without it. Thanks for the heads up on the book, you can never have enough running books, so I’m going to check it out!
