NOTHING NEW ON RACE DAY. I’ve repeated this little nugget of wisdom to myself and countless other runners.

Race day is not the day that you want to have a variable that could cause you unknown stress or make matters worse. You want everything that you can control to be controlled.

There are VERY few companies or products that I would break this rule for.

The week before Marine Corps Marathon I decided I wanted to run with music. No I had not trained one single mile with music this training cycle but I had it in my heart that I wanted to listen to songs I enjoyed and be reminded of moments in time when I heard those songs. I am very big on associations when it comes to music. A song can transport me back years to a moment in time that I was have a great time with friends, it can remind me of a particularly good long run I had, or even just remind me of a season I love.

I wanted music to listen to when I was trying to run a fast-for-me pace.

First I needed something to play my music. Eric and I don’t have the best track record with ipod shuffles, or should I say he doesn’t have the best track record with them. Between the two of us we have gone through 4 or so of them. I headed to Target and picked out a red shuffle and asked the male check out clerk if he would use this color. He said no because he thought it was pink. Eric won’t want to use a pink nano right? If he doesn’t want to borrow my nano – then he can’t break it right? To be extra sure I paid the $4 for the replacement plan.

In the mail the week before I had received a lovely package from Yurbuds with their new headphones designed specifically for women.

The only headphones I’ve ever used in a marathon before were an older larger version of the same headphones. They had worked perfectly and didn’t budge an inch – so I trusted that the new ones would do the same.

The night before the marathon I opened the Yurbuds box – popped them in my ears – shook my head becasue that makes total sense and is something you do while running?

I made the final decision to wear them for the first time on race day and break my own rule.

I wasn’t the least bit worried about them letting me down. This happens when you believe in a company and know they care about the runners they make products for.

26.2 miles later the headphones hadn’t fallen out, worked fantastic, looked cute [I'm partial to Tiffany's blue] and didn’t hurt my ears. I wore them again for Richmond Marathon and was REALLY happy I had music and headphones that didn’t make my ears hurt after 3:28 minutes of running.

If you are looking for affordable headphones that actually WORK and don’t fall out AT ALL. Yurbuds for women are the answer :)

You can find Yurbuds Inspire For Women at Target.

  1. Thanks for the suggestion! I am desperately in need of earbuds that stay put comfortably, so I’ll definitely give these a try. (Any excuse to go to Target, right??)

  2. I have the Tiffany blue ones and love them. They are perfect.

  3. Dorothy- What is the water bottle that you are carrying?
    Thanks!

  4. Gia was telling me all about this in Richmond also! I don’t normally run with music, but on the rare occasion I do I need the right headphones. I’ll have to put these on my list to Santa.;)

  5. I need to check these out because when I do use headphones, they keep coming out. Plus, as someone mentioned above, any excuse to go to Target. :-)

  6. The Marine bought me these buds as a last minute gift before my Richmond Half. I had always been of the mindset- I don’t need such expensive earbuds! But they are wonderful! Super comfortable, not even a hint of shifting or falling out- just perfectly in place the whole time. Highly agree with your recommendation.

  7. I recently got the Yurbuds Inspire in purple and they are great! They go perfectly with my purple I Run This Body shirt! ;)

  8. I LOVE Yurbuds! I have the old-style red ones, and lost one of the plastic covers. The replacements in the package are WAY TOO BIG, so I’ve been without for the past two months. This women’s sized style sounds perfect for my Christmas list! (Until then I guess I’ll fight with my iPhone earbuds. Ugh.)

  9. I am on my second pair of Yurbuds, after only 3 weeks with the first pair. The sound kept going in and out–maybe a loose wire in the cord? I hope that was just a fluke, because this was the first time I had earbuds that stayed in my ears! I have a pair of Sennheisers which have been my longest lasting earphones, but the cord malfunctioned recently as well. Let’s see how long these Yurbuds last.

  10. Thanks for the post!! I went out yesterday and found the headphones @ Target, I’m excited to try them during my half marathon on Sunday!

  11. Ooooo!!! Thank u for this!! I need new earbuds DESPERATELY!! Thanks!!

  12. I like the guys at Yurbuds, pleasant, professional and with a good product. They helped me out at Miami Marathon and provide Yurbuds to compliment CableBuds which is a superior magnetic earphone clip for clipping earphones to clothes. Together, Yurbuds and CableBuds keep earbuds in the ear and prevent tangled cables.

  13. Good day! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask.
