Items Needed:

  • A running shirt you don’t wear anymore but might if it was a little bit different – cotton or a poly-cotton blend shirt works best
  • Scissors

Take a shirt you don’t care about, in case you ruin in, and lay flat on the floor.

I chose this shirt because I don’t wear it anymore since it’s not Saucony and the v neck is NOT cute on me at all.

Fold in half so when you cut the neck you cut symetrically.

fold in half

Cut in small amounts so you can try it on and see if you like the opening of the neck line you have created. If you want it larger then cut again till you achieve the desired look.

As a child of the ’80′s I made my opening super large so I could wear it off one shoulder.

Once you are finished cutting – pull the neck a bit so it stretches – this will cause the edges you cut to roll a little giving it more of a finished look.

Super cute running shirt transformation in less than 5 minutes.

I won’t be wearing this shirt for running but now I’ll feel a little cooler when I’m wearing running attire in the pre-school pick up line.

  3. that’s such a cute idea. i have an entire box filled with old running shirts that i’m not certain what to do with but just don’t want to get rid of. i don’t know if i’d look as cool as you trying to sport this look, probably just look like a goof that couldn’t figure out how to properly work a pair of scissors on fabric.

  6. Yay! I’m so glad I follow your blog. This is just genius! I have all these tshirts from races that I never wear because tshirts just don’t look that great on me. But if I can cut it the way you did, and wear a tank underneath – I’d wear them all the time! Thanks so much for sharing that.

Hey Jovan :) If you use plain cotton race shirts try cutting the seam off around the arm holes as another option – I find it makes them hang better :) If you make one send me pictures!
