According to Cool Palms LLC, their BEX Runner is the world’s first wearable core cooling device that works before, during, and after exercise. The result is a stronger, more confident athlete and an overall better exercise exeperience.
Sound interesting?
The company says that:
The runner improves performance by enhancing your body’s natural cooling process. Like the footpads of most animals, the palms of human hands have natural radiators that help cool the body’s core. The skin in these areas is thin, and prone to sweat easily for a reason. Specialized blood vessels found beneath the palm surface, called arteriovenous anastomoses, expose hot blood to the outside air. Wearing a cooled BEX Runner on the palm of one hand during exercise significantly enhances this natural cooling process.
I have been waiting to post a review on the BEX Runner till I could legitimately test it out in weather that I felt was terribly hot or humid or both. The weather in Northern Virginia was just that this week.
The BEX Runner felt cold at first on my hand, but soon I forgot I was even wearing it. The company says it stays cool for about an hour and they are not lying. I ran 12 miles with it on Saturday and a little over half way through the run I could tell that all of the gel had warmed up and it was no longer cooling my hand.
The company reccomends if you use it for longer than an hour that you turn it so the cooling pad is on the back part of your hand. Sunday I ran 6 miles wearing it and turned it for the last mile or so to see how it would feel and if it would bother me. It did not bother me in any way and I honestly kept forgetting I was even wearing it. Wearing it on my left hand allowed my right hand to be free to carry my water bottle pack.
The product which retails for $29.99 is sold in two different sizes. I wore the woman’s small and it fit perfectly. Not too tight, not too loose, and I never had to grip it to get it to stay in place.
The question always arises when you test out products. If you had to buy this item, would you? Yes. In fact I’d love to have a 2nd spare one to put on once the first one has warmed up. I probably won’t take this on every long run with me this summer, but I am thinking it would be the perfect addition to hot track workouts, tempos and fartleks.
Do I think it helped me stay cooler? While I don’t have any specific way of telling whether or not it kept me cooler I can say that my pace this weekend was faster than I thought it would be considering the heat and humidity. So yes, I think it worked.

Pretty brilliant. Cooling the extremities is a fail-proof way to cool the body (growing up without A/C led us kids to discover that washing hands in cold water helped on hot days!). Of course, I suppose you could also freeze your water bottle! I do that in the summer anyway since it will be melted and even hot in about an hour.
Interesting product… Summer has definitely arrived and I'm struggling with heat adapting thus far. I need to hurry up and adapt since Las Vegas isn't getting any cooler or dropping out of the 100's much for the next several months. I am curious how this thing would work here!
I have one of these I need to test out! Glad to hear you liked yours.
Thanks for the product review. I've never heard of this before but I may consider getting one sometime!
Sounds yummy? I mean, if it really keeps us cool on the really hot days who wouldn't want it.
Interesting. Given my struggles with the heat I might have to give this a shot.
I'm on their site buying it now. Thanks for sharing!
I think holding something cool helps me on a hot run. Sometimes I'll hold my cold water bottle rather than leave it in my fuel belt.
