I couldn’t help but have a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart when the Black Eyed Peas song Let’s Get It Started was played at Amy’s wedding. The song was for me[it wasn't]. I danced and jumped around. The lyrics aren’t particulary amazing but I’ll tell you I belted out the chorus as if for some brief moment I thought I was Fergie.
Runnin’ runnin’, and runnin’ runnin’, and runnin’ runnin’, and runnin runnin’ and…
C’mon y’all, lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here) Ow, ow, ow!
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya…
These lyrics often come to mind while on the mill. Runnin’ runnin’, and runnin’ runnin’, and runnin’ runnin’, and runnin runnin’ and…
Often I get asked how on earth I can run for so long on the treadmill. I’ll be honest and admit that my treadmill isn’t your average stuck in the basement/dark dingy garage set up. It’s in my bedroom. It’s next to a huge window that looks out over my street. I have Fios On Demand and a nice TV[courtesy of my husband who was trying to get me to watch tv upstairs more so he can choose the programs in the living room]. I open the window while running so I have a constant flow of air. I can listen to the sounds of the outdoors if I so choose or I can crank up the tv and watch a movie. I always use the close captioning because it helps to keep my mind and eyes occupied and away from the ever looming clock that is on the cable box. I consider myself lucky.
I’m certainly not the only one who goes long on the mill, so I don’t think I’m super human. I think as runners we do what we have to do to run. For some of us this means getting up at 4:45 am and running in the dark[I did this for my MCM training in 2008],for others it means pushing two kids in a running stroller[I do this as well], and for others it means finding sitters[okay this is me again]. The list goes on and on. We do what we have to do. You may find that you are unable to run 16, 18 or 20 on the treadmill. Don’t get discouraged. Ask yourself this? Do you have to? If you don’t then of course your mind is going to stop you sooner. I would make a guess that if it was your only choice between getting in a long run and having to skip it, you too could run 20 on the treadmill.
My mom said something to me yesterday that really struck a nerve[not in a bad way]. **Aren’t you glad you finally have a treadmill. If there was any year to get one this would be the year!**
WOW
In the midst of all my whinning I forgot to be thankful…so here are some reasons why I love you mr. treadmill and why we will continue our relationship on.
1. You hold my water for me
2. You hold all my added fuel
3. You hold the remote
4. Without you I would not have been able to train for a marathon this winter
5. You allow me to run alone rather than pushing 80+ lbs of kids and stroller
6. You allow me to run in the dark and not have to look over my shoulder
7. I can wear music and zone out and never be in any danger[I know you've got my back]
8. You live right next to my bed as a constant reminded to get my buns out of bed and get moving
What are your positive thoughts on the treadmill??

i love your reasons for loving your treadmill. so true. I wish mine could be by my bed. It is a darker run in the basement..a little demotivating at times!!
Did you know you can change your set-top box to not show the time? I can show you. I have it set on channel. I really enjoy running to the Today show but just can't stand that little clock in the corner. I don't need to be reminded
My treadmill allows me to keep up on the "chic flicks" that the husband has no desire to watch. ;o) I could never train for long races without my treadmill.
Ok, that picture looks exactly like my bedroom. I sleep within arms reach of my treadmill.
I don't have a negative thing to say about my treadmill. I love it and honestly, I will cry when it dies. As a mom of three (with no reliable sitter), I often have to run on the treadmill. I have no choice. Because of it, I have decided to embrace it.
I love my mill too. I wouldn't get any week day miles in with out it. Two babies, semi-single mom, and scared of the dark. Sweet, sweet mill, what would I do with out you. While mine is not in my bedroom, you can see him from my stairs and the front door. He mocks me the days I avoid him and welcomes me the rest. I have been known to complain about him. But that is the way relationships go.
i love my treadmill too….it was a sacrifice….but SO WORTH IT!!! i remind myself that if i can do my 17 and 20 mile runs on a treadmill, then i definitely have the mental toughness to make it in a race with pretty scenery and thousands of other people!
I love the treadmill too. Got to do 18 miles on it tomorrow. but I have to use the ones at the gym with no tv controls. it's not nearly as good.
You're so right! You do what you have to to get your miles in. If it's 20 miles on the 'mill, you make the best of it and get it done because not getting it done is NOT an option! I like the way you think Dorothy, I really do!
Okay, you are right about the water holder. I like how you put a positive spin on the treadmill. If I do not have anything good to watch, I am at a loss on the treadmill
Even though my treadmill squeaks, he is always there ready to take me where ever I want to go and for as long as I want to run. He never complains about the kind of movie I watch or the fact that I have made me watch the same movie 5 times. I take him for granted and he still is there for me. Don't tell him but I do love my treadmill. I am lucky to have him!
Wow I won. Yippee!
I have had my treadmill for longer than I've been married…that's over 10 years! Mine is in the basement, because my husband thought the house was falling down when I ran on it upstairs. But it's by the back door, which I open for a nice breeze…or a foot of snow in yesterday's case. I LOVE doing intervals on the treadmill because you set the pace and can't slow down…well, you can, but then you'll shoot off the back!
I think your mom is pretty smart! I wouldn't have survived this past week without my treadmill!
YAY! Another treadmill lover!! My post yesterday was all about why I love "ed". Love it!
