with a little help from my mom of course…..

What I’m talking about is a ‘fuel’ that doesn’t hurt my stomach. I’ve never run a marathon and not crashed at the end – due in part to the fact that I have never been able to fuel up properly. I have an extremely sensitive stomach. For my first couple of marathons I used gels – which left me looking like I was 4 months pregnant by mile 20 – and feeling like I had morning sickness. I then switched to eating gummy bears – yes plain old gummy bears from the grocery store. These were great up until about mile 22 at which point the lovely fellows had expanded but not digested in my stomach and I felt like I was running around with 10 extra pounds of little men in my tum. Then I switched to sport beans – but could only stomach one flavor of them – fruit punch. The problem with them lied in the fact that in an entire marathon I couldn’t even eat a whole bag of them. This was a problem because one bag is about equal to the amount of calories I was burning in just one mile leaving me still without enough fuel to make it through over three and a half hours of running. I’ve tried the blocks, gel made from honey, eating an energy bar, eating tums, you name it and I’ve tried it. Some were better than others but I never found that magic combination for me. Until now…..

Raspberry Powerbar Energy Blasts. I could eat these things while not running. They are soooo tasty, easy to chew, and don’t leave me feeling yucky!

What do you use to fuel up during a marathon????
