I know this race happened over two months ago BUT I just got my finishers paper in the mail so I was reminded of it. I also happened upon another runner moms blog the other day where she was talking about Cherry Blossom and my competitive spirit was unleashed.

Reason number 5230948203948 why I love running – during a race you compete – as soon as you cross the line and it’s over – you congratulate! I’d like to congratulate some of my friends on seriously awesome performances. I used to be a “back of the packer” – I averaged 10:44 miles for my first race ever in 2000(Georgetown 10K) and came in dead last in my age group. I think I’ve earned the right to brag a little.

8,234 women competed on April 5th. My friend Meredith came in the top 150 with an impressive 138th place finish!! I broke the top 200 women with a 192nd place finish :0) My mom – yes I said MOM – finished 1,019th place – my friend Rebecca came in the top 1,600 women and yet another friend Karen was in the top 500!! Seriously ladies – this means that ALL of us were in the top 1,600 out of over 8,000 women!!!!!!

My very best friend Claire always tells me that running is a sport that does not lie. You can not fake good performances – you do not get lucky and happen to make a goal even when you skipped practice the week leading up to the game. In running when you run fast it’s because you put in LOTS of hard work. That means not days or weeks or even months but years and years of work.

Congrats to all my friends!! Cherry Blossom is on my b-day next year!! Anyone want to run it with me?!?!?!

P.S. My name was listed in the 3rd column on the first page of results – my goal for next year is to make the 2nd column! Ruuuuuuunnnnnn Happy :)
